³⁴ “A new command^(A) I give you: Love one another.^(B) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.^(C)

¹⁴ We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,^(A) sold^(B) as a slave to sin.^(C)

¹³ For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;^(A) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,^(B) you will live.^(C)

¹⁴ For those who are led by the Spirit of God^(D) are the children of God.^{(E) 15} The Spirit^(F) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;^(G) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.^[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,^[b] Father.”^{(H) 16} The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit^(I) that we are God’s children.^{(J) 17} Now if we are children, then we are heirs^(K)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings^(L) in order that we may also share in his glory.^(M)

Present Suffering and Future Glory

¹⁸ I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.^{(N) 19} For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God^(O) to be revealed.

⁶ Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son^(A) into our hearts,^(B) the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,^[a] Father.”^(C)

²² But the fruit^(A) of the Spirit is love,^(B) joy, peace,^(C) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control.^(D) Against such things there is no law.^{(E) 24} Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh^(F) with its passions and desires.^{(G) 25} Since we live by the Spirit,^(H) let us keep in step with the Spirit.

⁹ And this is my prayer: that your love^(A) may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,^{(B) 10} so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,^{(C) 11} filled with the fruit of righteousness^(D) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

¹⁴ Do everything without grumbling^(A) or arguing, ¹⁵ so that you may become blameless^(B) and pure, “children of God^(C) without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”^[a](D) Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky ¹⁶ as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ^(E) that I did not run^(F) or labor in vain.^(G)

¹⁰ so that you may live a life worthy^(A) of the Lord and please him^(B) in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,^{(C) 11} being strengthened with all power^(D) according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,^{(E) 12} and giving joyful thanks to the Father,^(F) who has qualified you^[a] to share in the inheritance^(G) of his holy people in the kingdom of light.^(H)
